Growers Guide for Wood Loving Cultivars
Substrate Type: 4 lb Pasteurized Hardwood + Wheat Bran Mix
Sealed in: Unicorn Filter Patch Bag (0.2 micron)
Ideal For: Lion’s Mane, Reishi, Shiitake, Chestnut, Pioppino, Oyster (wood-adapted strains)
What's Inside:
Finely milled hardwood sawdust (high in lignin & cellulose)
Organic wheat bran (nitrogen & nutrient boost)
Pasteurized and hydrated to field capacity
Sealed in sterile Unicorn bag for clean colonization
How to Use:
Keep bag sealed until ready to inoculate.
In a clean environment, inject or mix in fully colonized grain spawn (recommended spawn ratio: 1:3 to 1:5).
Reseal bag (if cut) and incubate in a dark, room-temp space (65–75°F) until fully colonized (typically 10–21 days depending on species).
Once colonized:
Cut slits for fruiting directly in bag OR
Remove and place into fruiting chamber with high humidity, fresh air exchange, and indirect light.
Fruiting Conditions (General Guidelines):
Humidity: 85–95%
Temperature:
Lion’s Mane: 60–70°F
Reishi: 70–80°F
Shiitake: 55–65°F post-colonization (cold shock optional)
Light: Indirect light or 12/12 LED cycle
Fresh Air: 3–5 exchanges/day or consistent passive airflow
Pro Tips:
Lion’s Mane prefers side-fruiting; cut X-shaped slits on bag sides.
Shiitake requires 7–10 day rest period after colonization before fruiting.
Mist walls or use humidity trays rather than over-misting block surface.
Reminders:
Use sterile or gloved hands when handling colonized substrate.
Store unopened bags in a cool, dry place.
Do not freeze.
Notes: Move slow, stay clean, and let the mycelium teach you the pace of nature.
